Immersive, Nostalgic, & Deeply Personal: What The Knot's 2027 trends mean for your Cleveland wedding

Every year, The Knot and WeddingPro study millions of couples' searches and talk with seasoned wedding pros to spot what's coming next. Their 2027 Wedding Trends Report just landed, and it describes the mood of 2027 as nostalgic, expressive, and full of character. After more than 30 years of Cleveland weddings, we can tell you that's our favorite kind of celebration.

Take a quick tour of all 20 wedding trends

Romantic & bold - The new wedding aesthetic leans romantic and bold. It includes sophisticated colors like merlot, plum, and powder blue, plus antique lace, fine art (Monet water lilies and Klimt, anyone?), silver and reflective finishes, and Swan Lake–inspired "balletcore." Florals include whimsical poppy bouquets and monofloral hydrangea installations.

Club cozy - There's also "The Beach Club," a sunny Italian Riviera look with spritz bars and cabana stripes. Searches for it are up 315%, the biggest jump in the report. Rounding out the list is the interior design wedding, full of table lamps, tassels, and cozy, collected touches.

Experience - Guest experience is now the top priority for 69% of couples. That section covers custom wedding "brands" and monograms, unconventional venues, surreal props and backdrops, interactive stationery, editorial-style photography, pop-up favor stations, interactive food and drink, and menus that celebrate a couple's heritage.

Beyond the big day - Couples are building more personal registries, booking ultra-private honeymoons, and stretching the celebration into welcome dinners and courthouse moments. Some of these belong to our talented friends.

Paint the room in merlot, plum, and powder blue

Searches for this sophisticated palette are up 127% year over year. The Knot’s report describes it as rich, deep reds, romantic pinks, and powdery blues, softened with delicate hues so the look feels considered rather than overwhelming.

The report's best advice is to build the palette in layers rather than repeating a single color throughout. Pick a hero shade for the big moments, then weave it more subtly through the smaller details.

Colors can also evolve to change how a room feels over the course of the night. A palette that feels elegant during dinner can deepen into something moodier once the dance floor opens.

Drape your walls in lace (without a single thread)

Antique lace is having a major revival. Searches are up 280%, one of the sharpest jumps in the entire report. Couples are carrying it beyond the gown into invitations, linens, and even the cake.

To stand out from the crowd, here's a unique way to take it even further: texture projections. Using small patterned discs placed inside a lighting fixture, we can project an endless number of custom patterns onto a surface. Imagine delicate lace patterns spilling across a ceiling, framing your dance floor, or climbing the walls behind your sweetheart table. The effect is soft, romantic, and a little bit magical.

The same projection technique works beautifully for the report's fine art trend, where searches are up 195%.

Couples are drawing inspiration from Monet's water lilies, Gustav Klimt's patterns, and stained glass. Projected art-inspired textures and imagery can turn a plain ballroom wall or ceiling into something that feels like a gallery.

And if you're building a custom wedding brand, complete with monogram or crest, we can project that design in any spot you’d like.

Light your reception like the coziest living room in Cleveland

The interior design wedding trend borrows from high-end interiors, with layered textures, statement furniture, and table lamps casting pools of warm light. The goal is a space that feels curated, personal, and lived-in.

That feeling lives or dies by the light. A cozy lounge under harsh overhead lighting feels like a furniture showroom. The same lounge in low, warm, layered light feels like home. It's the kind of place guests want to relax into and stay a while.

Many couples bring this look to life by renting lamps and lounge furniture from a rental company, which we love (there are so many great vendors in Northeast Ohio!). Those pieces need to work with the rest of your lighting plan, though, not against it.

Make everything shine a little

Silver is stepping out of gold's shadow, with searches up 133%. The report encourages a "reflective visual language" of chrome, mirrors, glass, and liquid-like sheen.

Here's the thing about reflective finishes, though: They only sparkle when light hits them. A well-placed pinspot turns a silver centerpiece from pretty into breathtaking.

Thoughtful lighting design balances several jobs at once:

  • Matching the warmth. Rental lamps and our fixtures should share a similar warm tone, so the room feels cohesive instead of patchy.

  • Keeping everyone safe. Pathways, stairs, and entrances need gentle, reliable light, so guests move comfortably without breaking the mood. Lamps also need power, so cords and cable runs should be planned and routed safely before anyone arrives.

  • Making the food look delicious. Buffets, stations, and that late-night dessert deserve enough light to look as good as they taste.

  • Letting the dance floor come alive. When the party starts, the energy needs to rise without blasting away the living-room glow everywhere else.

That's why we coordinate early with your planner and design team.

Pick a venue with personality (and let us worry about rigging & power)

In 2027, couples are trading expected wedding spaces for places with an identity of their own: jazz bars, restaurants, members' clubs, tiny chapels, and even arenas. Couples want a venue that surprises people before the ceremony even starts.

We couldn't agree more. We'll also let you in on an important note. The most charming venues can often be the trickier ones to produce in.

That historic space may have echoey, soaring ceilings with no easy way to hang lighting. That cozy restaurant may not be setup to handle the type of power needed for your reception. And that outdoor spot may have no power at all.

This is the unsexy work we actually enjoy.

It starts from the venue walkthrough. From there, we plan quiet power solutions (including hidden, disguised generators when needed), sound that fills an unusual room without overpowering it, lapel mics so your vows carry, and rigging handled by lift-certified, insured technicians.

When it's done well, nobody notices any of it. They just notice that everything feels effortless.

Give the camera something real to find

Finally, couples are asking for photos that feel editorial and cinematic, less like a record of the day and more like stills from a film.

The report makes a point we love: this style depends on what's actually happening in the room. It recommends building in moments that aren't fully scripted, like an unplanned rush to the dance floor. It also notes that textured, layered lighting tends to hold up better in candid shots.

That's where entertainment and production quietly shape your photos. A packed dance floor gives your photographer genuine joy to capture. Thoughtful lighting makes even the in-between moments look beautiful.

Timing matters too. The report highlights interactive food moments, with searches up 66%, like a late-night dessert that arrives just as the dance floor hits its stride.

Coordinating that kind of moment with your DJ and planner turns a moment into a forever highlight. Surreal props and experiential backdrops are trending as well, and they pair naturally with a photo booth where guests can play.

Choose the wedding trends that feel like you

The report advises wedding pros to pick just two or three trends they can truly own. We'd offer couples the same advice. You don't need moody uplighting with silver tablescapes in a jazz club with a swan cake, living room lounge, and Yayoi Kusama dot projections. (Although if you want all of these, we'd love to meet you because you sound quirky AF and we’re here for it!)

Start with what feels most like the two of you. Maybe that's a color, a texture, a favorite painting, or a family heirloom with a story. Then build a team that knows how to make it glow.

When you're ready to dream out loud, we'd love to hear what you're imagining.
